The GAHRA Scholarship Committee is privileged to announce that this year GAHRA will be awarding $17, 000 ($17,000 of GAHRA funds and $2,500 of SERC/NAHRO funds) to graduating high school seniors of GAHRA member authorities. In addition, GAHRA will also be awarding $8,250 to adult students of GAHRA member authorities.
For high school students, GAHRA will fund six academic scholarships for programs leading to an undergraduate degree and two technical/vocational scholarships. In addition, SERC/NAHRO will fund two academic scholarships. For adult students, GAHRA will fund three academic scholarships and three technical/vocational scholarships.
Please identify your prospective candidate and inform them of this opportunity immediately. The enclosed eligibility and application materials are separated into two packets – one for high school students and one for adult students. Please copy and distribute to your candidates as needed. Your authority should solicit as many students as possible to determine your authority’s applicants. Only one academic and one technical/vocational application per authority may be submitted to the Scholarship Committee for the High School Student Scholarship. Similarly, only one academic and one technical/vocational application per authority may be submitted to the Scholarship Committee for the Adult Student Scholarship. Therefore, the maximum number of total submissions of any authority/agency is four.
Completed high school student applications should be received at your authority by March 10, 2010 for local screening and ranking. Your authority’s nomination(s) must then be submitted to the GAHRA Scholarship Committee, c/o Dublin Housing Authority, P.O. Box 36, Dublin, GA 31040, no later than March 30, 2010.
Completed adult student applications should be received at your authority by February 26, 2010 for local screening and ranking. Your authority’s nomination(s) must then be submitted to the GAHRA Scholarship Committee, c/o Dublin Housing Authority, P.O. Box 36, Dublin, GA 31040, no later than March 17, 2010.
The committee will notify students and sponsoring housing authorities of selection or non-selection for personal interview by early April for adults and the end of April for high school students. Scholarship awards will be announced on May 17, 2010 following the interviews with the finalists at the GAHRA Spring Conference located in Macon, Georgia.
Authorities submitting applications to GAHRA are requested to publicize their winner(s) in the local media. They are also encouraged to seek local scholarships both to supplement this program and to highlight education as a means of success for our residents.
